Many people are beginning to see the truth of what really is going on in the world. The world order that we were led to believe that was the truth, is being exposed for the falsehood that it really is, and the two camps of ‘we’ and ‘me’ are starting to look glaringly obvious. Those who belong in the ‘we’ camp are those who care about all of us including the planet; those who belong in the ‘me’ camp are those who care just about themselves (and their profits).
This has nothing to do with politics. US President Donald Trump’s treatment of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House last week was an indication of things to come, but not just because Trump is unequivocally supported by the Republican Party. The deafening silence and weak will from the Democratic Party in response was also inappropriate. Zelensky is fighting for the lives of his people and for the right of his country to exist, but more poignantly for the survival of democracy (a form of political equality, where everyone has a voice) in the West itself, and he was berated by Trump for not having ‘any cards to play’ and by US Vice-President JD Vance for ‘not saying thank you’. A member of the press was allowed to insult the Ukrainian leader for ‘not wearing a suit’.
“This ‘me/we’ divide is what is facing the world at this time.”
The pre-eminent psychiatrist, Bessel van der Kolk (author of the New York Times bestseller, “The Body Keeps the Score”) recently said on the Steven Bartlett podcast (‘Diary of a CEO’) that Donald Trump is a “narcissist”. As we’ve discussed at length in these blogs, a narcissist is someone who is resolutely in the ‘me’ (self-interested) camp, which is the opposite of the ‘we’ camp. The global division between these two camps reflects the evolutionary question being put to everyone, globally, at this time. We are all being asked to answer the second question of three Milestones of Evolutionary Consciousness, which is, ‘Can I surrender my ego (for the sake of others)?’
Those who can only answer that question with a ‘no’ are in the ‘me’ camp. Those who can answer that question with a ‘yes’ are in the ‘we’ camp and those in the ‘we’ camp are more evolved as a result.
This ‘me/we’ divide is what is facing the world at this time. In other words, do we care just about our own needs, or can we also care about the needs of others, our community and our planet as well?
Let’s look a little deeper at how this ‘me/we’ divide is playing out in the world right now.
‘Me’ Camp Coming to the Surface/Power
The abrupt about-face in US-Russian relations is an indication of things to come. But more important than this defining moment for Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s long game in his interference in US politics and securing his ‘asset’ in the Oval Office, is what this means for the rest of the world.
The old world order of the West being spearheaded by the United States as a “defender of democracy” and an opposer of dictators, for the benefit of “the world”, is over. In one afternoon, the United States lost the optics as a trusted world-leader who ‘stands up to bullies’, and became a self-interested ‘me’ camp leader. And that loss (if recoverable at all) may take at least decades for the United States to regain. The system has been designed to support narcissistic people taking part in the political process.
As Trump changes the global political playing field in favour of the ‘me’ over ‘we’ camps, there is an alignment that is occurring in domestic US politics, across the political board, that is normalising this pursuit of personal power and gain. Republicans and Democrats are doing it. Bernie Sanders, United States senator from Vermont , is the most prominent politician not buying into this self-interested ‘me’ camp. The number of politicians who are not invested in seeking personal power through their jobs is extremely small.
“The system has been designed to support narcissistic people taking part in the political process.”
And, need it be said, Donald Trump did not ascend to power alone. He was given the political support of the Republican Party as he rose, and all because he defeated his opponents ruthlessly by using the unconventional means of personal insult and derision. He was considered by many to have brought “a gun to a knife fight”.
The groundbreaking American linguist, political scientist and philosophical voice on global politics, Noam Chomsky, said that the United States Republican Party was the “most dangerous organisation on earth”. I believe this to be true, because of their unwavering selfishness in the face of glaring human suffering on a global scale, and all for political (personal) benefit. While Donald Trump may have been a Vladimir Putin plant, recruited by the KGB in the 1980’s, the Republican Party enabled Donald Trump through sheer greed and a desire for political power and personal gain.
Networks of Power
The truth is that the United States has had a long history of interfering politically, economically, and militarily in other countries for its own benefit. While this has not been a secret, it has never been the official Western narrative and other Western countries have long ‘looked up’ to the United States as a world-leader in “helping” the world to stay open, fair and democratic.
The hidden underlying truth of the global ruling elite has been a shadowy world of subterfuge, military power and capitalist greed. For instance, the private equity investments firm, The Carlyle Group, known for its war profiteering, has attracted many ex-world leaders and officials as staff. US President George F. W. Bush served as a senior adviser to the Carlyle Group after leaving office, helping to strengthen the Group’s international network, particularly in Saudi Arabia and Asia. Bush used his connections to secure defence and foreign investment deals for the organisation. Prior to 9/11, the Bin Laden family were early investors in the firm. UK Prime Minister John Major, James Baker III (Former U.S. Secretary of State & Chief of Staff under Ronald Reagan and Bush Sr.) and Frank Carlucci (Former U.S. Secretary of Defence & CIA Deputy Director), all held positions of Chairman at the Group. Carlucci was the Carlyle Group Chairman from 1989 to 2003. Donald Rumsfeld (Former U.S. Secretary of Defence) also had financial investments in defence-related firms associated with Carlyle.
“The insidious and hidden networks of power throughout the world are becoming exposed.”
The insidious and hidden networks of power throughout the world are becoming exposed. And an important feature of this ‘new era of disclosure’ that we are experiencing is that we are being asked, clearly and definitively: “Can we surrender our ego in favour of others?”
If we can, we can be part of the future work that the world desperately needs us to begin to clear old hidden selfish intentions. If we cannot, we need to sit back and reflect on why we feel that we cannot engage at a non-selfish level and what wounds, if any, hold us back from clearing these blocks away. And to work on those wounds and to clear them.
Please email me if you have any questions about any of this work and let me know where you are personally struggling and what, if any, questions you have, so that I might clarify answers to these questions in future blogs. But also to address any questions you might have about the future.
Meantime, it is essential that you all take good care of yourselves and each other and that you recognise the need for everyone to feel included and part of the ‘whole’.
Blessings on you all and blessings on the work.
